L-Arginine-alpha-ketoglutarate (AAKG) is a dietary supplement used by athletes and bodybuilders to improve sports performance, reduce muscle fatigue, and enhance recovery. However, AAKG supplementation may also have added two benefits for us.

We all know that proteins can enhance satiety, and AAKG is an Amino Acid that performs particularly well in this area, and its mechanism of action is related to brain cells. Researchers from the University of Warwick found that hypothalamic ventricular membrane cells, the key brain cells controlling appetite, can produce satiety via Amino Acids. There are two Amino Acids that produce the strongest sense of fullness, Arginine and Lysine. After entering the human body, they act on hypothalamic ependymal cells, which may make us feel fuller. It is high in pork shoulder, sirloin steak, chicken, mackerel, plums, apricots, avocados, lentils, and almond kernels, and eating them can help fight hunger.

An important function of Arginine is to expel extra Ammonia and improve various symptoms caused by high blood Ammonia levels. AAKG intake can increase the activity of Arginase in the liver, which helps to convert Ammonia in the blood into urea and then expel it from the body, similar to "Detoxification". In clinical practice, Arginine compounds can be used to treat liver diseases in people with abnormal liver function.
